Hospitalist
Clinical description
The Hospitalist service at RIH is the main inpatient service within the hospital and covers a broad range of patients. Patients can be relatively acute/complex, but there is plenty of specialty service support. Our Hospital has a friendly and collaborative culture amongst the medical/surgical specialties as well as allied health providers. Inpatient units have charge nurses and associated clinical pharmacists that support hospitalists in providing excellent care. This is an excellent rotation for Family Practice residents hoping to gain more experience in inpatient medicine.
Trainee expectations
Trainees rotating on the hospitalist service will be encouraged to follow a list of patients during the week including new admissions from the Emergency Department and transfers from other services. Rotations anywhere from 1 week to 2 months can be arranged and call frequency would not be expected to exceed one call shift per week.
